Three years ago I was a brand new DPT graduate stepping into home health for the first time. I had passed the boards. I had completed every clinical rotation my program required. Nothing had prepared me for this.

There is no rotation in PT school for home health. No textbook. No course. No senior PT down the hall when something does not look right in a stranger's living room. Every program in the country trains its graduates for clinical settings, and home health is the one nobody trains anyone for.

So I figured it out on my own. Determined to make the job work with almost no one to ask. Every lesson I learned in the field, I wrote down. Two years later, that first hand experience became this curriculum.

There was no textbook. No course. No mentor I could rely on who was in home health. So I started writing things down. Every visit, every workflow I built for myself, every business decision I had to learn the hard way. That documentation has since become the foundation for this curriculum. Every module is the answer to a question I had to figure out alone.

There are nearly 300 DPT programs in the United States. Home health is one of the largest and fastest-growing practice settings in physical therapy. New graduates can earn $90,000 to $140,000+ in their first year.

In our 2026 review of the publicly published curricula of the nearly 300 CAPTE-accredited DPT programs, we found no program listing a dedicated home health course or required OASIS instruction. We also found none teaching the business fundamentals (W2 vs 1099, rate negotiation, tax strategy) that decide whether a new grad thrives or burns out in the first year.
